The concept of creating Trans-Frontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs) is recognised as important tool in promoting the conservation of biodiversity and endangered ecosystems. It has been established that the development of TFCAs can contribute to the welfare and improvement in the standards of living especially of rural communities through the development of tourism and tourism related products. TFCAs compliment the principles related to alleviation of poverty and regional economic integration, thereby contributing to the Millennium Development Goal. The general objective of TFCAs is to attain landscape - level conservation of healthy ecosystems while capitalizing on those shared assets to improve the quality of life for communities living within and around a particular TFCA. The political and societal benefits of collaboratively working together with neighbouring countries also can lead to better economic integration.There are six TFCAs in Zimbabwe which are at various levels of development; legally, institutionally and in terms of infrastructure.
